We did everything from reinstalling nwn2 to rebuilding a PC's software from scratch (wipe and reinstall windows+nwn2 only) to swapping graphics/GPU cards (ATI Radeon HD 4600 series, EVGA GeForce GT 240, motherboard GPU). Nwn2 would fail in area transitions and/or generate BSODs (blue screen of death, such as x124 - hardware failure). This gave nwn1 a lot of replayability where I don't see it, yet, in nwn2. I liked the nwn1 exploration because I could pick the order to do things and hence find weapons, amour and artifacts in the order I wanted to get them - to maximize my character's abilities. In nwn1 it felt like I was exploring a world AND solving problems, where in nwn2 it follows more of a script of what has to be done next to solve problems. Nwn2 is a bit more linear in the story, but that has not been too bad. This feedback is based upon my daughter finishing nwn2 and I'm about half way through. Reading all the reviews I held off getting nwn2 until the price came way down and it had as many patches as possible. I also believe Atari has recently discontinued support so be careful when buying. There may be patches for this but I haven't gone to the site at Atari yet. I can go literally anywhere on the map "except" the docks in Neverwinter, the one area where I have to go. I have to return from the Owl Well to the dock section of Neverwinter. What has caused me to not finish is a bug I ran into near the end of Chapter one. I ended up uninstalling everything and reloading without SoZ. What worked before no longer worked, my companions either stood there doing nothing, cast spells I didn't want them to, or drank potions unnecessarily, etc. Once I had that figured out it was unfortunately undone when I loaded the Storm of Zehir module. I was consistently having to stop a companion from doing something I didn't want them to do (like charging into the middle of a group of hostiles that I had gotten the drop on). On the down side, the artifical AI was cumbersome and took more time than it should have to figure out. The side quests seemed logical and well thought out IMHO.

There is a good mixture of encounter types with some being quite challenging. Not overpowering to me, and worked well with where my characters were in their development. I also liked the way crafting items/potions/scrolls is handled. That is very limited at best in a few other games and non-existent in most. One in particular is the feedback regarding your party companions and their perceptions of you and your actions/decisions. I liked the storyline and many of the features that separate this game from others of the genre. I have not completed this game (I'll address that later) but I have enjoyed many hours playing this 3rd edition D&D rules adventure game.
